ISO 50001 will become a mandatory standard for Pakistan's textile industry

Anis-ul-Haq, secretary of the Punjab Textiles Association (APTMA), said that ISO 50001 is an international energy management standard that was launched in June 2011. This standard may soon become Pakistan’s export-oriented type. Mandatory standards for the textile industry.

In the "Continuous Energy Solutions" seminar for the textile industry, Mr. Anis explained that the ISO 50001 standard sets a framework for companies to integrate energy in their operational management practices, thereby improving the efficiency of the entire supply chain.

He said that the standard will help companies better use their existing energy consumption assets, encourage them to better manage energy, strengthen energy management practices, and support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

APTMA Secretary-General Punjab stated that the Energy Management System (EnMS) is a joint venture and is a joint venture between GIZ GmbH and the SME Development Board (SMEDA).

The first phase of the EnMS project is planned to provide services for 25 textile mills, including 17 spinning mills, 3 processing plants and 4 weaving mills. The principle of first-come first-serve is all funded by GIZ.

The 25 plants will save 7.483 MW of power, in addition to 5,614 TOEs and reduce 30,480 tons of CO2 emissions. The factories will also save 293 million Pakistani rupees.

Anis said 400 APTMA's textile factories have saved 268 MW of electricity, 200,000 TOEs and 1.8 million tons of CO2 emissions. These factories save about 8 billion Pakistani rupees.

APTMA President Punjab Ahssan Bashir suggested that members of the Association make maximum use of energy-saving projects. The total energy consumption of the domestic textile industry is 1,500 MW. According to global experience, technical arrangements can save 10% of energy.
