A cold wave swept through, and warm sanitary clothing became a hot commodity. Soon after, a new type of "silk-like" hygienic garment appeared on the market. Priced at NT$5,000 per set, it was twice as costly as pure cotton or wool versions—but people still bought it. Is it really warmer? Let’s take a look at what the Taiwanese media reported.
Infrared thermometer tests revealed that the temperature difference between "silk-like" sanitary wear and traditional options wasn’t very significant. However, pure silk garments were much lighter in weight, while pure wool and cotton ones felt heavier. Despite the high price, many consumers still preferred silk. Department stores now offer a wide range of sanitary products, including pure silk, wool, cotton, and even high-tech heat-resistant fabrics, all designed to attract buyers.
Various types of sanitary dressing booths have opened up. Initially, the surface temperature of the clothes was around 19°C. Then, after using a warm pack close to body temperature, the readings changed. After ten minutes inside the garments, the temperatures were measured again. Pure silk reached 29.3°C, pure wool 28.4°C, and pure cotton 30.6°C. Even the high-tech fiber products advertised as “constant temperature†only reached 30.4°C. There were slight differences in heat retention among the materials.
When comparing prices, a pure silk hygiene top can cost around 3,000 yuan, while pure wool is 1,800, pure cotton is 680, and warm clothing is about 1,200. Silk remains the most expensive option, while cotton is the cheapest. But silk is also the lightest in weight. Still, people should consider potential allergic reactions caused by different materials when making a purchase.
With so many options available, it's important to weigh both comfort and practicality before deciding which type of sanitary clothing suits your needs best.
