Jiangsu Nantong garment exports exceeded 2 billion U.S. dollars

Business News Agency – January 20th With the global market slowly recovering, garment exports from Nantong, Jiangsu have seen a notable rise. According to data released by the Nantong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, in 2010, the region exported 91,800 batches of garments, totaling 386 million pieces or sets, with a value of $2.051 billion. This represents an increase of 21.99% in the number of batches, 18.89% in quantity, and 21.07% in value compared to the previous year. While the growth in export volume is encouraging, many local garment companies are not seeing a proportional rise in profits. Industry experts point out that this is due to two main factors. First, the global economy is still recovering at a slow pace, and consumer spending patterns in developed countries are shifting. Additionally, China's own consumption structure is evolving as the country moves toward a middle-income status, leading to changes in demand. Second, rising production costs, especially labor expenses, have eroded traditional competitive advantages. As wages increase and other input costs rise, manufacturers are under pressure to maintain margins while competing with lower-cost producers in other regions. Despite these challenges, the industry remains optimistic about long-term growth, with many companies focusing on innovation, quality improvement, and diversification of markets to sustain their competitiveness in the global arena.
